Material vs Non Material Culture

Dive Further In…. Culture is both MATERIAL and NON MATERIAL Material Culture: Any physical objects such as skyscrapers, restaurants, cell phones, cars, schools, etc. Non Material Culture: Beliefs, customs, traditions, family systems, economy, etc. Why discuss this? Culture helps to explain human social behavior. Culture provides a “blueprint” that people in a society use to guide behavior.

Nature v. Nurture Genetics or Environment

Nature v. Nurture Nature refers to what people inherit – biological groundwork that prepares a person to develop in certain ways. Nurture refers to environmental factors – what a person is exposed to in life; family, education, culture, living conditions, & everyday individual experiences How much of who we are is found in our genes (nature) verses how we are raised & environmental conditions (nurture)?
