This one’s talking’ Child “Lots of the children who aren’t very vocal were talking loads. It will be good to look over the notes to see what observations we can get from it”. EY Practitioner “[My child] really enjoyed making the space urchins and telling me that you had to be quiet as they were sleeping. When he came home with his own urchins he was really happy and wanted to make some more’. Parent

2017-18 Art all around us Experiencing Artists’ Work Making and Creating Sharing Formal learning Foundations of Art sessions Mini Artists Informal learning Mini Masterpieces – awarding Creative Families Award

‘It’s really helped her focus on the pictures’ Parent

Experiencing artists’ work: What is your favourite artwork in the gallery? ‘it’s got a straight across the mouth’

Make and Create: What did you make at the activity today? ‘I did a painting explosion!’

Activity Self-portraits

Lessons Learnt 2017-18 18 participants in 2017, 24 so far in 2018 Some people do it as families, some as each individual child Unexpected results and conversations Works best when it is completed in 1 session alongside an activity Prizes and certificates are very popular Handed out sheets during session – volunteer help Increase 16% (vs. 0% in 2017) from hard to reach postcodes

Future Rolling out across museums at all activities – February 2019 Use it as a starting point for Arts Award engagement
