How is it assessed? Date of exam The new grading structure is being introduced, from grade 9 to 1, to replace the familiar A* to G grading scale. 9 will be the highest grade, 1 the lowest. Grades available Higher 4-9 Foundation 1-5 Grade 7 anchored to a grade A Grade 4 anchored to a grade C How is it assessed? 100 % exam Three papers each 80 marks Each paper 1.5 hours Date of exam GCSE Paper 1 (Non Calculator): Tuesday 21st May 2019 (AM) GCSE Paper 2 (Calculator): Thursday 6th June 2019 (AM) GCSE Paper 3 (Calculator): Tuesday 11th June 2019 (AM)

Higher 4-9 and Foundation 1-5 . Tier of Entry Grades available Higher 4-9 and Foundation 1-5 Crossover grade 4 and 5 ( 4 is equivalent to a grade C) Review assessments and exam papers. Mock in November , and had two exam in January ( students will have results this week) and another mock in March. Final decision needs to be made by Wednesday 27st March Suggested tier of entry for March mock exam in your packs but final tier of entry may change in light of mock grade from March paper.

More demanding for everyone The volume of subject content has increased for both tier More difficult topic introduced The total time for the examinations is increasing, form 3 ½ hours to 4 ½ hours In the assessments there’s a greater emphasis on problem solving and mathematical reasoning Students will be required to memorise formulae – fewer formulae will be provided in examinations Parent guide on our website with additional information on the new changes.

Revision Sessions and Additional Support We run additional sessions on Tuesday in C8 between 2.50pm and 3.50pm. In addition, other sessions run throughout the week, led by Faculty staff. Sessions are targeted and are run on an invitation basis. In addition, students can support their revision by referencing homework set on Show My Homework and using revision booklets on the school website.

Class teachers will have discussed the route and tier with students. Any queries should be made to Mrs. Jackson by 15th February.

Questions based on skills developed from the required practical's taken by all students. No coursework. The total time for the examinations is increasing. Separates – from 9 hours to 10.5 hours. Combined – From 6 hours to 7.5 hours. Students will be required to recall equations for physics – fewer equations will be provided in examinations (all equations to recall are found in the back of workbooks). Greater demand on mathematical skills over all three sciences.

What can you do at home to support with structured revision?
