Leadership Training Extended Unit 1: Base Camps

1.1 – Base Camp Basics What is a Base Camp? How does it differ from a single day walk? More than one day Accommodation to consider Transportation to consider Finances to consider Maybe use a team to organise the event BWV Walk Leader Training Extended Unit 1 – Conducting a Base camp

1.2 – Getting Started Where are you going to go? When are you going to go? How are you going to get there? Where are you going to stay? How long are you going to stay there? How many people do you want to take? BWV Walk Leader Training Extended Unit 1 – Conducting a Base camp

1.3 – Walks Program Research your chosen area for walks How many walks per day? Up to 20 walkers – 1 walk per day 20 to 30 walkers – 2 walks per day More than 30 walkers – 3+ walks If more than 1 walk per day choose a variety of walk grades How many walk leaders will you have? Do you want rest days? Prepare more walks than you will need Prepare the usual walk notes and maps for each walk BWV Walk Leader Training Extended Unit 1 – Conducting a Base camp

1.4 – Accommodation Caravan Parks are the simplest option Walkers can make their own bookings for cabins, tent or caravan sites Other options include: Camping only: Are bookings required and who will make them? Other options include: Group accommodation: Can be catered or self-catered A group booking or individual bookings? What are the costs and how can payment be made?
