PRESENTATION: Energy Consultative Meeting DATE: 7 June, 2012 PRESENTATION BY: Stephen Forder

Introduction 1974 Dedicated to the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency including all solar- based energies such as Photovoltaics Thermal heating and cooling Wind, Biomass Hydro power ISES

IRP2010-2030 SESSA applauds the steps that the DoE has taken in stimulating the nascent utility scale renewable energy industry in South Africa IRP2010-2030 (17GW) REIPPP Acknowledges one of the most developed renewable energy programmes in the world

Localisation SESSA strongly supports the Government’s ambition towards Sustainable, Balanced and Labour Absorptive Growth SESSA applauds the 17 May statement of intent that will intensify localisation efforts in the Solar Water Heating industry The roll-out of SWH projects must not be compromised while the DoE builds the framework for enforcing local content. Clear guidelines be given so that the industry can get to work boosting local capacity.

Decentralised, Small Scale Generation Develop small scale and energy efficiency concurrently with the REIPPP process Access to basic energy services to the poor without grid constraints Green job growth potential in smaller scale roof top generation such as solar water heating and photovoltaics Manufacturing Distribution Installation Maintenance and servicing Institutional Every roof has the potential to become a solar roof Enhancements to Eskom’s Standard Offer Programme – 10kWp to 1 MWp Other initiatives such as Solar Roof Top Programme targeting 300 000 solar roofs

SWH Experience → Roof-top PV 43% membership is black owned Growth despite economic downturn Youth centred education & training in the areas of Business Development and PV technology Curriculum Development Various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives
