Mrs. Stone’s Class Classroom Newsletter October 16, 2017 Field Trip October 24th is our Field Trip to Discovery Place in Huntersville. If you have not returned the permission slip or paid for your child to go, they will not be able to attend. We need these forms back, so please return ASAP. If you need another one, please let me know. Favorite Book Character Day is October 27th Your child should have come home with information about their Book Character Report. Reports are due Friday, October 27th and they should dress as the character in the book. If you have any questions about this homework, please contact us for further information. Spanish Phrase Otono: Autumn/Fall Box Top Collection Day is October 20th If you have not signed up for a conference, please see the Sign-Up Genius link that was sent via email. These are mandatory this first quarter. What Are We Learning? This week we will be learning through our theme of Bats/Stellaluna. Math – Introduce (1.OA. 1a and 1c) I can use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems and review (1.NBT.3b) I can use the greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=) symbols to compare two numbers. ELA – (1.RL.2a)I can answer questions about details in a story. (1.RL.2c) I can use details to describe the characters in a story. (1.RF.2c) I can say each sound in a word. (1.W.3a) I can write a story telling about two events in order. Letterland Unit is short u sounds in words. Additionally the two sounds of s and the end of words will be introduced. Science – (1.E.2.1) Rocks – continue to explore and classify objects. Fire Safety This week we will end our unit on Fire Safety and have a visit from our local Fire Department on Friday morning. This is always so much fun for the students. It is a great learning experience for them too! Picture Day is Thursday, October 19th Information and forms were sent home last week. If you are interested in purchasing pictures, it must be prepaid. It can be online or returned in the picture envelope on Thursday. PTO Please send back your Halloween Candy Grams by Friday, October 20th if you are planning to purchase them. This is a fun treat for the students. The 2017 Coyote Fund Raffle is ongoing.
