Ideal for overall catalytic activity Ab initio studies of metal-doped ceria for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Anode Electrocatalysts Michael J. Janik Dept. of Chemical Engineering Pennsylvania State University Incorporation of noble metals in the low energy surface of ceria can provide enhanced activity for methane activation. Proper combinations of ceria surface plane and metal additives can optimize the activity, and thereby the power and efficiency of direct hydrocarbon oxidation solid oxide fuel cells. Easy to oxidize, fill vacancies Ideal for overall catalytic activity reduce V Pd Activity Easy to reduce, create vacancies Pd provides a more reducible metal center, enhancing C-H activation Reducibility
