Digital Credentials in Higher Education: Documenting Student Success It’s Working at UMMC!

The Gap Data Agenda Level 2 History Level 1

The Gap

MULTIPLE activities MINIMUM follow-up or assessment NO documenting objectives Clinical leaders providing education without training or knowledge of sound educational principles

Digital Credentials Students need documentation or certification for tasks and accomplishments

…an information-rich visual representation of a verifiable accomplishment or achievement …tools for displaying skills and experiences that may not be apparent in an academic transcript, resume or curriculum vitae …linked to secure electronic files, sharable to demonstrate skills and experiences to prospective employers, colleagues, faculty, and peers …reflect UMMC’s reputation for quality teaching and learning

Mississippi’s only academic medical center needs to be a beacon for education and healthcare to improve patient outcomes for a healthier Mississippi

“Inter-professional education (IPE) is important because it enables students from various professions to learn about, from, or with each other, and therefore resulting in the collaborative, comprehensive care that our clients/patients value and expect. Given the opportunity, during my time at UMMC I would like to participate in inter professional activities and training to learn core principles and concepts of each contributing discipline… and become familiar with the basic language and mindsets of the various disciplines. This, in turn, will prepare me with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for collaborative inter-professional practice in the future.”

eCampus Digital Credential Sub-Committee Policy B Request and Approval Procedure/Workflow C Roll-out and Training for Approver Teams

Why use digital credentials? Mobile way of documenting activities and skills acquisition Specifies exactly what skills or knowledge learner has acquired Signifies levels of learning outcomes demonstrated and incentivizes higher level learning with levels of badges Why use digital credentials?
