Alison Pritchard Director, EU Exit and Transformation Government Digital Service @gdsteam

GDS and Transformation - 2019 and beyond It was great to hear from the Minister about the support he’s giving to GDS. I’d like to go into a bit more detail about our work. I want to talk about: The mission of GDS and the progress we have made What we will be focusing on in 2019 and beyond

GDS helps government work better for everyone by leading the digital transformation of public services This is our purpose - what we are here to do Scope of organisations we’re trying to help transform also includes local as well as central. Not just central gov departments, is public sector too. And this remains our purpose regardless of the wider context. While we are supporting government to deliver EU Exit - which I will talk about later - we are also working on long-term transformation.

The story so far

2.38 million 249 50 PaaS GOV.UK 5.6 billion sessions 16.6 billion page views 249 million notifications sent in total 2.38 million £108m million on GOV.UK Pay payments worth 50 data registers PaaS 99.99% uptime Digital Marketplace £1.3 last year, bringing the total to £4.22 billion GOV.UK Verify over 7 million secure transactions Service assessments around 200 carried out in the past year Most of you will be aware of the things we build at GDS Having the Government as a Platform suite of common tools, components and guidance means that departments can draw on technical expertise and products that would have been too costly to procure independently. You can see from the figures some of the things we’re doing Examples: GOV.UK - we are currently working with departments to communicate vital EU Exit-related information. GOV.UK Pay - which can be used to pay for emergency travel documents or for electronic visa waivers GOV.UK Notify - which is being used across central government and the wider public sector - including to send reminders for GP appointments The Digital Marketplace is now 4 years old - £4.5 billion has been spent through it, with more than 90% of the suppliers being small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs)

DDaT: 17k Local Digital Declaration Transformation Peer Group We published the Government Transformation Strategy in 2017 and we’re delivering against it The objectives in the strategy are: Provide tools, process, governance Help government transform Invest in skills and people Make better use of data Build shared platforms (for reuse) Tools -- GovWifi: growing take up - over 418 installations - Embassies and boats Transform -- Local Digital Declaration - nearly 150 organisations signed up all across the country The Transformation Peer Group and the publication of the 7 Lenses guide to transformation - we’ve distributed 4,500 booklets of the 7 Lenses Skills & People -- 17,000 people in the DDaT profession 38 job families and 10,000 students through the GDS Academy

2019 and beyond: (Still) solving the hardest problems

A world leading digital government EU Exit A world leading digital government Innovation Building capability across departments Supporting major digital projects Working with other leading international teams Building the Global Digital Marketplace An Innovation Strategy for government EU Exit We’re building capability across departments Supporting major digital projects Publishing clear information on GOV.UK We need to continue to be a World Leading digital government Working with other leading international teams 180 overseas delegations: Singapore, Colombia, Norway, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Australia and New Zealand. Academies in Canada Building the Global Digital Marketplace - this recently launched and we’re working with governments including South Africa, Mexico and Malaysia to help them make their procurement more transparent and also to open up opportunities for UK SMEs Innovation Innovation landscape survey in early 2018 Innovation strategy - will be delivered in Spring year - as the minister said, this will lay the foundation for how government can use emerging technologies Launched the Govtech Catalyst in November 2017 - We’ve seen really interesting challenges so far and the minister has just announced the 5 latest challenges, including Oxfordshire County Council investigating autonomous vehicles and Leeds City Council looking at how sensors can help improve social housing
