Function Notation f(x) = 5x – 9 A function is often represented using function notation as shown below…. f(x) = 5x – 9 This is read, “the value of the function (f) at x is 5x – 9” -when you plug in a value for x, you will get the function value Example…if x = 2, the value of the function is 1 because 5(2) – 9 = 10 – 9 = 1
