W2.2 Call for Potentially Essential Patents May 2011 doc.: IEEE 802.11-11/0051r2 November 2014 W2.2 Call for Potentially Essential Patents If anyone in this meeting is personally aware of the holder of any patent claims that are potentially essential to implementation of the proposed standard(s) under consideration by this group and that are not already the subject of an Accepted Letter of Assurance: Either speak up now or Provide the chair of this group with the identity of the holder(s) of any and all such claims as soon as possible or Cause an LOA to be submitted Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

W2.3 – Thursday CAC reminder November 2014 W2.3 – Thursday CAC reminder Leaders of 802.11 Task Groups, Study Groups and Standing Committees (or their nominee) should attend the Thursday CAC at 7:30pm. The purpose of the CAC is: To prepare the agenda and material for the closing WG plenary To create room requests for the next session To advise and support the chair in his responsibilities as an EC member Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

November 2014 W2.4 – 802 EC Workshop The 802 EC meets roughly yearly to have a full day executive session to consider matters of strategic importance to 802. It is meeting on Saturday. Topics to be discussed include: Long Range Financial Planning International Venue Expectations (Wi-Fi, Cancellation Policy etc) WG Rules Update Further discussion on the IEEE indemnification policy LTE-Unlicensed IEEE 802 Strategy IEEE-SA Internet Governance Definition of market relevance in context of Broad Market Potential Address Confidential Communications Policy/Process BOF and Tutorial Definition and Effectiveness If you have a strong opinion you would like to be considered, discuss with the WG officers, and/or raise on the closing Friday plenary. Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

M5.2 Looking at relationship with the WiFi Alliance November 2014 M5.2 Looking at relationship with the WiFi Alliance IEEE 802.11 and the WiFi Alliance are mutually dependent. The relationship between the two organizations is generally effective, helped by a large number of participants common to both. The WG chair addressed the WFA board at their recent meeting on the topic of improving this relationship. We plan for the WG executive committee to meet with a number of the WFA executive/board members to consider how to improve the relationship. Expect a report in March 2015. Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

May 2011 doc.: IEEE 802.11-11/0051r2 November 2014 W5.4 ANA – Request for guidance on rules for allocation of last Element IDs 802.11 has 19 unused and 6 reserved (was allocated) values. TGai has asked for >50% of these numbers to be allocated to it. In Sept, TGmc was tasked with creating an extension mechanism. Wed pm2 has a scheduled agenda item to discuss this Should we create criteria for use of the remaining ElementIDs, or allocate on a first-come, first-served basis? Should we re-cycle old Element IDs? Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

Possible Rules First-come, first-service November 2014 Possible Rules First-come, first-service Reserve the slightly more efficient “legacy” format for frames sent at basic rates + your favourite rule here… Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

Straw poll Text TBD based on discussion / consensus November 2014 Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

W5.6 – Discuss 802.11 response to 802c PAR November 2014 W5.6 – Discuss 802.11 response to 802c PAR 802c would like a protocol to allocate MAC addresses from the locally administered address space One solution being considered to improve privacy is to use a randomized MAC address from the locally administered address space. There is apparently a conflict for this resource. This was discussed on Monday, and the outcome was: TBD Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

November 2014 So what happens next? The WG chair, as an EC member, will vote on the 802c PAR during the Friday closing 802 EC. NOTE, the WG chair votes as an individual in the EC using his or her best understanding of the issues, except when a “directed position” has been established in the WG (75%).
