Activator: Sit down SILENTLY Take HW out and make sure name is on it. Write HW in agenda Complete page 1 of the Lesson 16 Distributive Property and Number Tricks packet. You will have 4 minutes to read the objectives, example, and complete.

Today’s Objective(s): I will be able to identify equivalent expressions and define and apply the distributive property. So that I can represent number tricks using words, algebra tiles, and algebraic expressions. I will know I got it when I can accurately complete at least 2 number tricks independently or with my partners with at least 80% accuracy. 6.EE. 2-8

Language Objective By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the 4 language domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing. They will be able to listen to and verbally discuss with their partners how to create equivalent expressions and read the steps to create and write the solutions of their number tricks. Students will show they understand when they can accurately complete at least 2 number tricks with their partners with at least 80% accuracy. Academic Math Language Vocabulary: model, variable, factored form, expanded form, equivalent, expression, factoring, distributing, distributive property, algebra tiles, algebraic expression.

Model the Distributive Property and Algebra: (page 2) Words: Algebra Tiles: Algebraic Expressions:   4 more than x Double it x + 4 2(x + 4) 2x + 8

triple it 3 more than x x + 3 3(x + 3) 3x + 9 Words: Algebra Tiles: Algebraic Expressions:       3 more than x x + 3 3(x + 3) triple it 3x + 9

2 more than x Double it 2x 4 Words: Algebra Tiles: Algebraic Expressions:   x + 2 2(x + 2) _____ + _____ 2 more than x Double it 2x 4
