Today we will examine this question: Why were Japanese-Americans interned during WWII? First, we will watch a Government Newsreel about the internment. Fill out “Round One” of your graphic organizer while you watch. Now form a thesis statement that answers the question and write it in “Hypothesis A” box. Be ready to share. Japanese Internment
Discussion Discuss with your group and be ready to share your answers: What were some of the reasons for internment offered in the newsreel? How does the newsreel portray internment? Is it positive or negative? Who do you think the audience was for this newsreel?
Japanese Internment Now read Documents B and C. Fill out “Round Two” of your graphic organizer Rewrite your thesis to reflect the new information and write it in the “Hypothesis B” box. Read Documents D and E Complete “Round Three” of your graphic organizer Create a final, complete thesis statement. Write down three pieces of evidence: one piece to support each reason in your final thesis.
Discussion Discuss with your group and be ready to share: Has anyone’s hypothesis changed? Do you find these documents more or less trustworthy than the government newsreel? Why or why not? Why is the date of the Munson report important?
