3/17 Entry Task: Finish reading page 163. Objective: SWBAT cite evidence and analyze the development of ideas and tone.

Cite text evidence (in lines 70-77) What is the device Tyson is describing in this passage and what does it do? How does using this example further Tyson’s central idea?

Analyze impact of word choice: tone (in lines 90-94) Where does the author use humor to grab the readers’ attention and make a key point? How do these phrases make a valid point?

Analyze the development of ideas (in lines 95-116) Writers often develop and support their central idea by using evidence and specific details. Look at the quote on page 164. What is the key point in lines 102-116? What are the details Tyson uses to support this idea?
