Lower leg muscle hints Superficial muscles Deep muscles Tibialis cranialis; aka tibialis anterior (sits on top of tibia) Achilles tendon Deep muscles Extensor digitorum longus; deep to Tibialis; small muscle; seen on lateral side of leg (outside of leg) Flexor digitorum longus; deep to Tibialis; small muscle; seen on medial side of leg (inside of leg) Gastrocnemius; deep to Biceps femoris; large calf muscle Peroneus – deep to Soleus; seen lateral side of leg; makes up bulk of back of leg Plantaris – deep to the Gastrocnemius; seen from the medial side of Gastrocnemius Soleus – deep to the gastrocnemius; seem from lateral side of Gastroncnemius
