Heart Rate and Heart Beat

A beat consists of: diastole (relaxation of the ventricles, contraction of the atria/filling) systole (contraction of the ventricles/pumping)

The Lub-Dub sound: - “lub” is the closing of the A-V valves, systole - “dub” is the closing of the S-L valves, diastole * unmuffled the valves snap shut producing a clicking sound

The control centre of contraction of the atria - a mass of nerve cells called the sinoatrial (SA) node (heart’s pacemaker). The control centre of contraction of the ventricles – atrioventricular (AV) node. AV Node

Average adult resting heart rate is 70 bpm (beats per minute) As your heart pumps blood through your body, you can feel a pulsing in some of the blood vessels close to the skin's surface, such as in your wrist, neck, or upper arm. Average adult resting heart rate is 70 bpm (beats per minute)

Blood Pressure during systole, a pulse (surge of blood) is sent out into the muscular arteries that expand and absorb the pressure during diastole, the arteries maintain a lower limit of pressure systolic/diastolic (120/80) indicates a lot about a person’s cardiovascular health - blood pressure is the measurement of force applied to artery walls
