Leadership – Youth Boatswain Boatswain’s Mates Yeoman Purser Coxswains Storekeeper
Boatswain Plans & conducts Quarterdeck meetings. Provides leadership to all Ship meetings & activities. Supervises other officers. Represents Ship in council & regional events.
Boatswain’s Mate – Admin Takes over for the Boatswain as necessary. Supports the Boatswain & other officers in their leadership functions. Manages leadership to recruiting new members into the Ship by coordinating open houses & encouraging Ship members to invite friends. Admits new members into the Ship. Conducts opening & closing ceremonies of the Ship.
Coxswains / Crew Leaders Responsible for the morale & conduct of their Ship side. Leads & inspires by example. Stimulates participation & encourages teamwork. Is familiar with each member’s abilities & interests & helps with training. Mentors & hosts new Sea Scouts.
Boatswain’s Mate – Program Supports the Boatswain & other Ship officers. Collects activity ideas, plans the calendar & keeps the Ship’s schedule up to date. Helps the Ship’s activity chairs plan & conduct successful activities. Provides meeting programs.
Activity Chairs Lead activities: Manage: Planning Organizing Directing Controlling Manage: Scope, Cost, Time Quality, Procurement, Risk, Resources, Team & Communication
Yeoman Keeps minutes of Quarterdeck meetings & other Ship meetings. Keeps all Ship members updated about upcoming meetings, activities & projects. Maintains Ship member records. Keeps roster details current.
Media Specialist Also known as the Webmaster. Manages communication tools & the Ship’s publicity. Creates, preserves & shares records (e.g., news, photos, videos, memorabilia).
Purser Oversees Ship money-earning projects. Collects, deposits & accounts for all money coming into the Ship. Works with the Ship Committee’s Treasurer on finances & setting up bookkeeping procedures, bank accounts & money-handling methods.
Storekeeper Responsible for the boat equipment & supplies, including procurement & arrangement. Tracks the coming & going of Ship equipment. Keeps an inventory of equipment & supplies. Responsible to request necessary cleaning or maintenance of Ship equipment, especially vessels.
Leadership – Adults Ship Squadron Skipper Mates Ship Committee Chairman Ship Committee Members Director Commodore Committee Member
Skipper Upholds chartered organization & BSA standards. Mentors & serves as a role model for Sea Scouts. Works with the Boatswain. Facilitates training for the officers. Supervises Mates. Attends all Quarterdeck & Ship meetings. Provides direct leadership to Ship program planning.
Mates Serve in the absence of the Skipper. Assist the Skipper in coaching / mentoring of the Ship. Advise & help the Boatswain’s Mate – Admin with ceremonies. Work with assigned Sea Scout youth officers.
