The ‘hard’ facts

Not the red – Look for the blue!

The ITUC Global Organising Academy Building workers’ power is the mandate of the 2014 ITUC World Congress. Organise workers on the issues that will improve their lives: Wages Safety Secure work Rights Social protection The global workforce has approximately 2.9 billion people. Only 60 per cent work in the formal economy, and they have increasingly precarious employment arrangements while 40 per cent struggle to survive in the desperation of the informal economy where there are no rules, no minimum living wages, no rights and no social protection. The task is to organise.

Goals • Strengthen unions’ capacity to organise and recruit new members. • Build and support an organising culture within affiliated unions based on clear criteria. • Skill-up lead organisers that can support union targets. • Embed a mentoring programme and establish a global network of lead organisers.

Strategy • Organise regional training for lead organisers. • Develop and support a pool of organisers in each participating country. • Deepen the mentoring and workplace organising training in participating countries. • Support a global network of highly skilled organisers. • Support organising in ITUC Frontlines. • Support organising in GUF Campaigns.
