WHERE am I, & WHAT am I doing?? AT THE BELL? In my seat! - pencil sharpened! - bathroom complete (Mrs. O, gotta go!) - QUIET! Agenda filled in Journal out when board says!

WHERE am I, & WHAT am I doing?? DURING CLASS? S.L.A.N.T.!! Sit up, Listen, Ask & Answer questions, Nod-Notes-No talking, Track speaker Raise TWO FINGERS to: - sharpen pencil - get kleenex/ supplies ~ get a drink (CLASSROOM PASS!) Raise ONE FINGER to: - ASK FOR AN ER PASS

WHAT WILL I LEARN?? World Geography (the study of the world & its people)! - Five Themes - Map Skills - Governments - Economies - Cultures World Regions ie. Caribbean, SE Asia, Middle East Western & Eastern Hemispheres

HOW AM I GRADED?? TWO 6 week marking periods (43% of trimester grade) 1 exam (14% of grade) per trimester (THREE trimesters total: 12 weeks each!) YOUR GRADES ARE BASED ON TOTAL POINTS EARNED TESTS & PROJECTS are ASSESSMENTS of knowledge & worth more points, usually 40 or 50. HOMEWORK, DAILY WORK & JOURNALS are PRACTICE of skills & worth10 pts or less each KEY WORD= EFFORT!!

MATERIALS! Part of your DAILY grade is coming prepared to class! The following items must be brought daily along with your agenda, homework when given, textbook, & reading book for down time after quizzes. PENCILS A 2” 3 RING BINDER EXCLUSIVELY FOR SOCIAL STUDIES (A SECTION OF A ZIPPERED BINDER OR AN ACCORDIAN FILE WORKS AS WELL) ONE SET OF 5 TAB DIVIDERS A POSITIVE ATTITUDE & A SMILING FACE!

MATERIALS CONT’D The following items are very helpful to have on hand &/ or at home: COLORED PENCILS & MARKERS FOR MAPS & PROJECTS A HIGHLIGHTER FOR INSTRUCTIONS COLORED PENS FOR ORGANIZING YOUR AGENDA KEEPING THESE IN A PENCIL BAG IN YOUR BINDER WORKS GREAT! ATLAS (THE NYSTROM STUDENT DESK ATLAS WILL BE USED IN CLASS)

EXPECTATIONS! Remember Mt. P Middle School is BEST!! T FOR TOTAL RESPECT_: for the teacher and her space, all adults, other students & their property, & all school and teacher property: students must respect each student’s and their own right to learn in a comfortable & safe environment & the teacher’s right to teach without disruption. E FOR EFFORT & OWNERSHIP: this includes responsibility for coming to class prepared  EACH DAY with completed assignments & readiness to learn, and for proper language & actions. A IS FOR ATTITUDE:  coming to class with an open mind, positive attitude, being respectful to others & being ready & willing to learn. M IS FOR MENTAL & PHYSICAL SAFETY:  Keep hands, feet & objects to self & report any teasing, bullying, or dangerous activities. RTP WHEN EXPECTATIONS ARE NOT FOLLOWED!

RESPONSIBILTY IS KEY! TAKE CARE OF YOUR SPACE TAKE CARE OF SUPPLIES (A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING IN ITS PLACE!) NO CANDY UNLESS I GIVE IT REMEMBER YOUR MOTHER DOESN’T LIVE HERE!! ALWAYS FILE PAPERS, DO NOT THROW!! SAFETY & COMFORT IN OUR ROOM AT ALL TIMES!

PASSES YOUR MAIN FOCUS IN CLASS IS TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE TASKS AT HAND. 46 MINS GOES FAST!!! THEREFORE, YOU ARE ALLOWED ONE PASS PER WEEK TO USE IN AN EMERGENCY. YOU NEED TO: RAISE ONE FINGER TO QUIETLY ASK MRS. O WITHOUT DISRUPTION SIGN NEXT TO YOUR NAME ON THE CLIPBOARD WHEN YOU GET THE PASS GO QUIETLY, RETURN PASS QUIETLY, DON’T DAWDLE 

HOMEWORK COUPLE TIMES A WEEK (+ PROJECTS/ STUDY TIME!): YOU WILL DO WORK AT HOME! ONLY PENCIL! NEATNESS, HEADING, NO ASSIGNMENTS MORE THAN ONE WEEK LATE!! (PROJECTS=-10% PER DAY) YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE WHEN ABSENT! - CALENDAR - WEBPAGE - W.A.G.

REMEMBER!! SUCCESS WILL BE EARNED NOT GIVEN TO YOU ON A PLATE!
