WHEN SHOULD YOU APPLY TO SCHOOLS? Begin the application process NOW! Be aware of application deadlines Colleges, universities, community college, tech and career schools All applications should be finalized before Thanksgiving break.

First Step…… Items you may need: Apply to Schools- via specific school website or Common Application (www.commonapp.org) If using the Common App you must link your Common App in Naviance Items you may need: Official College Entrance Exam Scores Essay or Personal Statement Letters of Recommendation Official High School Transcript

Official College Entrance Exam Scores SAT or ACT TEST SCORES MUST BE SENT FROM THE TESTING AGENCIES Log on to the websites to send scores: SAT – www.collegeboard.org ACT – www.actstudent.org

Essay or Personal Statement Draft a detailed personal statement or essay; whichever the school requires Ask an English teacher to review This statement or essay may be used when applying for scholarships

Letters of Recommendation Request at least two teachers write letters of recommendation for you Allow them plenty of time Use the “Recommendation Request Form” or resume Forms are available in the counselor’s office Teachers will upload your letter to Naviance and it will be sent directly to your school(s)

NAVIANCE Go to “College” tab Click on “colleges I am applying to” Enter the college(s) that you are applying Select the way in which you are applying: Directly to the institution Common App Click the “send transcript” box Submit

SCHOLARSHIPS You should actively seek scholarships for which you may be eligible. There are many website search engines you can use (i.e www.scholarships.com) Check the “Scholarship Information” tab on the Counselor’s Corner of the High School website for local scholarship information.
