Thermal Insulating Aerogel Filled Coatings Panel: SP&C – Current Project PROJECT INFORMATION OBJECTIVE Lead/Prime: GD-Electric Boat (EB) Team Members: GD-Bath Iron Works, , HII-Newport News Shipbuilding, BAE Systems Southeast, Elzly Technology Corp., Righter Group, Inc., Tnemec Company Duration: 12 Months Introduce Aerogel filled thermal insulating coating for sub and shipboard applications. Replace current vermiculite or anti-condensation / anti-sweat applications. Improve existing processes, altering dew points outcomes on steel substrates, reducing / eliminating condensation at greater application speed and elevated thicknesses (150-200 mils per coat). DELIVERABLES/BENEFITS/ROI FINANCIAL Program Funds: Up to $150K Demonstrate improved application, durability, and performance methods Reduce cost and scheduling Measure speed of application of single pack technology

Evaluation of Plasma Coating Removal and Surface Preparation Panel: SP&C – Current Project PROJECT INFORMATION OBJECTIVE Prime/Lead: GD-Electric Boat Team Members: Bath Iron Works, BAE Systems South East, Newport News Shipbuilding, NASSCO, NSWC, SURFMEPP, Corrosion Probe, Righter Group, Elzly Technology Corporation Duration: 12 Months Optimize the plasma beam coating removal system to deliver a product that is most effective for the Navy. Conduct shipyard demonstrations, laboratory and field tests that will discover cost effective uses and elicit feedback from potential users of the system. DELIVERABLES/BENEFITS/ROI FINANCIAL Reduction in coatings removal cost & time Increase qualitative feedback from operators and inspectors Reveal existing surface profile for Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI)

GD-BIW GD-EB BAE SSY 2 Primers with Extended AF Overcoat Window – Identify and test the compatibility of commercial high solids primers with extended AF overcoat windows and MIL-PRF-24647 QPD AF paints, potentially eliminating the need for a thumb tacky coat. HII-Ingalls 3 Weld Prep for Thermal Spray Nonskid (TSN) – Test and evaluation TSN over defective welds and welds conforming to MIL-STD-1689A to determine if the localized failures can be attributed to weld defects, TSN, application process, or TSN material properties. BAE-SSY 4 ChemQuest Technology Institute Pre-Treatment for Powder Coating Processes – Develop and integrate a robust, environmentally friendly chemical conversion pre-treatment process for steel and aluminum substrates. Other Yards TBD 5 Conversion Coating for Field Application – Significantly reduce cost, improve performance, and increase ROI of exterior naval coatings. 6 Salt Environment Apparatus – Coatings & Repairs Simulator (SEACaRS) – Develop and build a walk-in, climate control, environmental salt chamber for testing coatings. 7 SeaRobotics Corporation Robotic UWH Grooming During Construction – Maintain hull coatings in a clean an unfoulded condition during in-water phase construction. Austal HII-NNS 8 Elzly Technology Corporation Reduce Cost & Schedule Impact of Coating Rework – Identify and implement methods to reduce the cost and schedule impact of coatings rework during shipbuilding and ship repair. 9 Survey of Surface Preparation and Coatings Automation – Develop a path forward for NSRP Shipyards to improve automation of surface preparation and coatings processes. 10 HII-Ingalls Shipbuilding Deck Optimization Study – Deliver higher quality deck coating to the Navy. 11 Reduction in Heat Straightening – Eliminate unnecessary work and rework in unmanned spaces for cosmetic effect. 12 Entry Point International Temporary Protection of Coatings and Finishes in Naval Application – Demonstrate and measure the cost benefits of a higher performing temporary protection system. 13 HII-Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) KCC-PPC-Series Maskants for Temporary Peelable Protective Coatings – Develop and integrate processes using peelable protective substrates before, during, and after manufacturing. 14 Nanolaminated Metallic Coating Evaluation – Determine if Modumetal’s nanolaminated metallic coating can be a variable non-hazardous option to cadmium plating, with comparable material performance. 15 TruQC Standardization and Digitization of Visual Inspection for Shipbuilding and Repair – Configure commercially off the shelf product for standardizing and digitizing visual inspection data to optimize Naval Ship construction and repair processes. 16 GD-NASSCO Virtual Spray Paint Training System – Evaluate Virtual Reality technology, such as Virtual Paint Spray Training Systems (VPSTS), to shipbuilding industry standards (009-32 / NSTM-634 and SSPC as it relates to spray paining operations), and collecting user feedback on the experience. 17 GD-Bath Iron Works (BIW) Certificate Program: Shipbuilding Industry Surface Prep and Coating Training – The proposed Certificate Program will provide shipbuilding paint training. Assemble a team of Shipyard representatives to survey the use of blasting and coatings robotics in other industries to identify concepts that may work in shipbuilding. DELIVERABLES/BENEFITS/ROI FINANCIAL Deliver report documenting the results of a literature review and field visits to observe various abrasive blasting and coatings robots in-action Reduce overall costs in terms of direct cost and risks reduction Identify opportunities for implementation, possibly through Research Announcement (RA) projects Program Funds: Up to $150K Cost Share: N/A

Standardization and Digitization of Visual Inspection for Shipbuilding Panel: Surface Preparation & Coatings (SP&C) – Top 3 – #2 PROJECT INFORMATION OBJECTIVE Prime/Lead: TruQC Team Members: BAE Southeast Shipyards, HII-Newport News Shipbuilding, Elzly Technology Corporation Duration: 12 Months Configure commercially off the shelf product for standardizing and digitizing visual inspection data to optimize Naval Ship construction and repair processes. The intent of this project is to prove system functionality and repeat tremendous savings and data availability seen by commercial clients over a two year period globally. DELIVERABLES/BENEFITS/ROI FINANCIAL An objective, standardized, paperless, and truly digital defect identification and resolution system that can be used for internal process improvement Useable data consistent across class, contracts, and work processes Significant time and cost savings Program Funds: Up to $150K Cost Share: N/A

Test and Evaluation of Primers with Extended AF Overcoat Window Panel: Surface Preparation & Coatings (SP&C) – Top 3 – #3 PROJECT INFORMATION OBJECTIVE Prime/Lead: Excet Team Members (Including NSRP’s Shipyards): National Research Lab (NRL), PPG, Sherwin Williams, International Paint, HHI-Ingalls, BAW, and BIW Duration: 12 Months Identify and test the compatibility between commercial high solids primers with extended AF overcoat windows and MIL-PRF-24647 QPD AF paint, potentially eliminating the need for a thumb tacky second coat. Full scale testing (e.g. dry-dock wall) of candidates identified under FY18 NAVSEA PCoE program. Recommended changes will be made via the ASTM F-718 and 009.32. DELIVERABLES/BENEFITS/ROI FINANCIAL Deliverable: Lessons learned and cost benefit analysis ASTM F-718 application requirement Benefits: Eliminate subjective assessment of thumb tacky Improve QA for second coat of primer (DFT, etc.) Dry-dock flexibility ROI: 3:1 Program Funds: Up to $150K Cost Share: NAVSEA PCoE - $170K (FY18), $135K (FY19)

Specifically: Optimize the work requirements Identity/demonstrate improved tools and processes DELIVERABLES/BENEFITS/ROI FINANCIAL Deliver report including recommended practices for reducing the impact of coating touchup Reduce cost by eliminating rework Improve quality by optimizing rework procedures Program Funds: Up to $150K Cost Share: N/A

Temporary Protection of Coating & Finishes in Naval Applications Panel: Surface Preparation & Coatings (SP&C) – Next 2 – #2 PROJECT INFORMATION OBJECTIVE Lead/Prime: Entry Point International Team Members: Elzly Technology Corporation, HII-Newport News Shipbuilding, HII-Ingalls Shipbuilding Duration: 12 Months Introduce new methodologies for temporary protection being deployed in other shipyards in US, NATO, and Europe. To prevent delivery delays and cost overruns due to unforeseen rework of structural components and coating finishes. Evaluate cost and labor for reworking temporary protection weekly / daily and measure this against costs and schedules new approach. DELIVERABLES/BENEFITS/ROI FINANCIAL Demonstrate improved technologies in temporary protection of shipboard coatings, non skid, stainless, and non ferrous metals coated and uncoated. Look at safety and rework issues of existing protection practices Research cost impacts of higher performing temporary protection compared to rework costs on schedule and quality for shipbuilders Measure labor of higher performing protection vs legacy materials. Look for reusability/recyclable technologies vs. disposable materials. Perform field time study to determine material and labor cost of legacy materials vs. newer methods Program Funds: Up to $150K, Cost Share: N/A
