Sea-Floor Spreading 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. TEACHER NOTES below Beforehand: Go through and make one yourself; it’ll help you be more prepared, and to speak and lead this lesson more clearly. When making photocopies, in order to get the lightly shaded tectonic area to show up properly, you might need to set your copies to copy an image/photograph. Regular copying might not show the faint outline as intended. Materials per student: handout, ruler Super-Simple Procedure: Give students the handout, and use this ppt to lead you and them through it, doing/copying everything shown! Notes: Since text on this ppt is editable, feel free to change what you like. This took me about 1 ½ class periods to work through, without rushing my students.

Diverging plates pulling apart 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. At the ocean bottom, 2 tectonic plates are pulling apart. As they do, magma rises, then cools and hardens to form new rock, like basalt and gabro.
