AIMS OF THIS SESSION To present recent developments / innovations in the presentation, dissemination and scope of short-term economic statistics (STES) Presentations will be given by: Germany OECD Followed by discussion of other national initiatives

BACKGROUND (1) Similar topic was included in agenda at 2006 STESWP meeting. Presentations were given by UK, Netherlands and France on their recent dissemination initiatives. Showed innovative ways of presenting STES to reach wider audiences – Supplement traditional tables / graphs provided in paper publications and on-line databases.

BACKGROUND (2) The final issue last year related to the provision of analytical text – Pressure to go beyond descriptive text and provide information on causality

TODAY OECD presentations today will cover: New data and metadata interfaces for OECD Main Economic Indicators (MEI) (RMc) Joint OECD – ECB Adobe Flex system (DW) Proposals for new facility to present selected OECD MEI short-term economic indicators (EPH)

WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL?

WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL? Interested in hearing about any other national initiatives for the presentation of short-term economic statistics in an innovative way. Could comprise either corporate or individual initiatives: Giving greater value-added to the indicators traditionally presented in static tables and graphs. Provision of more analytical text – e.g. in pres releases Tools to expose statistics to a wider audience
