Scope of the EU survey on ICT usage Enterprises in the private sector with at least 10 employees Broad range of economic activities The survey covers the demand side of ICT, including also enterprises with low or no ICT usage The ICT supply sector is only one of many sectors included in the survey

The EU Regulation EU Regulation 808/2004 concerning Information Society Statistics Common framework for systematic production of ICT statistics Harmonisation of ICT statistics Minimum standards for statistical quality Definition of characteristics in close cooperation with users Flexible instrument OUTPUT regulation

Increasing importance of ICT Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are driving factors of fundamental changes of European economies and societies Key technology for future competitiveness of European economies Strong policy demand for measuring use of ICT as well as economic and social impacts of ICT

Needs for ICT statistics International political needs - covered by international guidelines (best way is participation in international work to monitor changes in needs) National policy needs - each country has its own (political) needs that goes beyond those covered internationally For national demands (examples) added extra questions in the surveys publication that include all statistics on the ICT area make special publications when needed for specific political purposes
