Introducing T.S.Eliot Date:

Internet critics and reviewers Today’s poet is like a reviewer who studied poetry and then did it himself. Your question is this: Do you think that expressing yourself and your views can have a healing or positive effect on yourself and others?

Thomas Stearns Eliot (1888-1965) is one of the most important poets of the twentieth century. He wrote in order to process the nightmares he saw unfolding around him. Eliot lived through two world wars and witnessed their debilitating effects. He believed that the power of poetry is to represent life and to challenge us to face it.

What are the effects of war? Create a list. Your next question: What are the effects of war? Create a list. (Broad question – think of both the big and small, a country and person and everything in between.)

Eliot gave a voice to a generation that had no words for what they saw happening around them. The truth of Eliot's poetry still applies today, even in our modern world where we have a million different ways to communicate but still aren't sure what to say.
