Welcome to Your Award-Winning Class! Our short film, “Mad World” won several awards in 2014’s Florida Film Institute Film Festival. Mr. David H. Ernsberger Mr. “E”. davidernsberger@dadeschools.net

What You Will Need For This Class: An SD Card of at least 4 GB A Notebook A Folder to keep handouts in Loose leaf Paper (or rip-able paper—no scraggles) Any combination of these three so long as you have all three A pen or pencil

Class Fee SUPPLIES/FEES Every Digital Video Production Student will need to pay the class fee which is $20.00 Paying your fee and bringing your SD card will be some of your first grades of the year.

C.A.C. The Cinematic Arts Commission The club I sponsor. Our first meeting, for veteran students, will be next Tuesday. Over the next couple weeks we’ll open it up to rookie students. We work very hard on special projects throughout the year. We meet Tuesdays at 11:55 or so in room 201E.

What you will do in this class (an incredibly general overview): Learn how to write, shoot, and edit narrative and news digital films, like a professional, from concept to screen. Learn how to produce a live TV show in our state of the art, live production studio.

The Public Eye This is a very public class. We are always out there, always visible; whether we are shooting, or broadcasting on the tvs, computers, or online to the general public—someone is always seeing us perform. You represent this class, you represent Coral Reef, and you represent ME! If you misrepresent this class, you will be in trouble…

The “Do Nots” Do not touch any of the teacher computers; no printing, no checking grades, no nothing! You can BYOD so use them! It is not worth getting in trouble using a teacher's computer. Do not touch anything in any of the teacher desk drawers unless instructed to do so. The table is yours (not the printers). Do not touch any of the Promethean remotes or pointers unless instructed to do so. Do not touch the Promethean board with anything except your fingers or a stylus--NO DRY ERASE MARKERS. Do not unwittingly rub against the Promethean board. It is always on and you may delete something accidentally.

The “Do Nots” continued… Do not move desks. Do not move or remove chairs, stools, or any furniture from any rooms unless instructed to do so. Do not sit in any of the rolly chairs—they are for adult visitors. Do not remove the doorbooks from the rooms.

The “Do Nots” continued. Do not use profanity of any sort. Do not disrespect others. Do not do anything stupid (more on that later).

The “Do Nots” continued. Misrepresent this class. What does that mean? Saying you are doing something for my class when you are actually not—especially when you are not even in the class at the time. F for misrepresentation (16 grades) Call or email home When you misrepresent this class, it is dishonest and disrespectful, and it undermines what we are here to do. We need people to believe us and believe IN us in order to accomplish what we need to do (specifically, the teachers). When you misrepresent this class, it diminishes us in the eyes of the people who appreciate what we do for the school and for the community (specifically, the Administration). TRUST

The “Do Nots” concluded (the big one). New school rule: It says, “All VPA students will not be allowed to remain in the Auditorium, VPA classrooms, Blackbox and Music or Dance Wings after rehearsals and in between school dismissal and call times for evening performances. If students choose to stay at Coral Reef, they will have to wait in front of the school until the teacher has returned and it is call time.” What this means for us (CAC specifically): On performance nights, if a student (or group) is going to film a performance and decides not to go home before the show starts, that student (or group) MUST exit the building and remain outside. Students waiting for a performance to start are not allowed to wait in any of the main buildings. They must wait in the covered area in front of school. You will be allowed back in when your sponsor or teacher is present.

You may: Say please and thank you; Always ask a question (before something goes wrong); Always make a suggestion; Have fun.

How will we communicate? NOT And I will try to manage these… You will have to join this and/or…

How will we communicate? Email!!! At the start of next class I will ask each of you to write your name, student number, phone number, and a working email that you check into an Excel file. This will make it easy for me to contact you as a class, and make other lists in the future.

ER Manager At some point, when we start production, we are going to need some individuals to manage the Equipment Room. You need to be: Honest, hard working, trustworthy, organized, and patient. And, maybe have a little desire to be in charge of stuff. Put it in the back of your mind—it will come up later.

Digital Video Production Contract You will sign it, take it home, have your parents sign it.
