University of Nice Sophia Antipolis 12/04/2019 Project CC4U2 Setting an Efficient Partnership for Allowing International Student Exchanges: a Difficult Issue Philippe Lahire University of Nice Sophia Antipolis Kherson - May 21th 2009

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Summary of the talk Motivation and Context Requirements Process Conclusion

To make easier student exchanges 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Main Objective To make easier student exchanges achieved To select the cursus To build paths To calibrate the level of students (first internship) To prepare agreements To make it true Our project CC4U2 supports this willingness

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion The Big Picture Computer-Science curricula Master 1 and 2 from Nice vs Bachelor and Master in Ukraine Several paths in France / Major and Elective in Ukraine 6 months or one-year exchanges One-year : host university diploma : possible Six-month : Sending university diploma only

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Exchanges in Computer-Science Field Ph.D Internship … Master 1st year Master 2nd year MIAGE Faculty of sciences I3S Laboratory Master 2nd year IFI Kharkov Polytech’Sophia Bachelor last year Master Kherson

Requirements (level expected in L3 MIAGE) From Kharkov and Kherson 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Entering the fourth year of University (Master 1 MIAGE - Faculty of Sciences ) Requirements (level expected in L3 MIAGE) Programming techniques (C or java) Databases (relational databases) SQL (creation and manipulation) Algorithms Operating systems (Windows and Linux) Object-oriented conception (UML, design pattern, etc) Basics in economics Basics in company management Basics in accounting Basics in marketing From Kharkov and Kherson Units are common to all informatics specialities in Ukraine “accounting” knowledge will have to be adapted to the host country specific harmonisation process handled in the host institution.

Entering the fourth year of University 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Entering the fourth year of University (Master 1 IFI - Faculty of Sciences & Polytech’Sophia) Requirements (level expected in L3 IFI) Programming techniques (C or java) Databases (creation and manipulation) Algorithms Operating systems (windows and Linux) Object-oriented conception (UML, design pattern…) Complex systems or logic programming or office informatics Automata and language (theory of compiling) Internet programming Programming operating systems Concurrent programming or advanced internet programming or advanced OOD Project management or database administration or introduction to telecommunication From Kharkov and Kherson Mandatory courses are covered by the Ukrainian curriculum Optional courses correspond to optional courses in Ukrainian universities

Requirements (level expected in M1 MIAGE) From Kharkov and Kherson 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Entering the fifth year of University (Master 2 MIAGE - Faculty of Sciences) Requirements (level expected in M1 MIAGE) Kharkov: about computer science most of the knowledge is covered by the mandatory and elective courses (there is no specialization before the fifth year). About management, the students will have to follow additional courses in order to fulfil to the requirements. This will be done by the inclusion of elective courses in the fourth year in KhNU programs. Advanced database Advanced programming (java) and design patterns Distributed systems Advanced Compiling (grammar, parser, etc.) XML technology Infrastructure and protocols of the networks Web applications Analysis and design of application with advanced UML Computer-science policies in companies Management simulation Finance affairs and diagnostics Company creation Management control and audit Kherson: About computer science most of the knowledge is covered by the specializations provided at KSU. About economics, the students will have to follow additional course units in order to fulfil to the requirement. This will be done in the faculty of economics of KSU. From Kharkov and Kherson Mandatory courses are covered by the Ukrainian curriculum Optional courses correspond to optional courses in Ukrainian universities

Requirements (level expected in M1 IFI) 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Entering the fifth year of University (Master 2 IFI - Faculty of Sciences & Polytech’Sophia) Requirements (level expected in M1 IFI) Kharkov: Three of five in the list of options (System programming or Introduction to decision Databases or constraint programming) are covered. About the group of options, KhNU covers G1 (except cryptography – only basics), G2 and G3. Kherson: Only one among three in the list options is covered by KSU. “Introduction to semantics” is not covered. KSU covers G2 and G3 but for G1 it provides only some bases of the 3 courses. Mandatory units : Object persistence models XML technology Introduction to calculability Distribution and concurrency Software engineering Introduction to logics Distributed Programming Networks Introduction to complexity Introduction to semantics 3 units chosen from: System programming or Image Synthesis or Digital Electronics or Introduction to decision Databases or Constraint programming. One of the three groups of options : G1: Cryptography and Security + Systems Programming + Compiling G2 : advanced relational databases + databases administration + Web 2.0 G3 : software Architecture + Web 2.0 + man-machine Interface

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Other Requirements Language (750 at TOEIC test or similar) English courses : France & Ukraine not ready some attempts : A master 2 in English at Polytech Specialization vs Major and Elective courses 6 months or one-year exchanges One-year : host university diploma : possible Six-month : Sending university diploma only Selection is always performed by the host university Implement a solution individual program

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Main Steps (1) To establish pedagogical requirements To set main rules to be applied to the exchange To look to logistic To sign a general agreement To write a first attempt of the annex (specific to a field) To submit it to the faculty/school board To submit a version in the local language to the ministry

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Main Steps (2) To discuss about necessary changes To implement a first exchange (adapt the level) specificity of the context real understanding of the pedagogical program … To repeat it and adapt it To do it for other fields

A First Experience : Difficulties Students 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion A First Experience : Difficulties Students Experience : internship of four students kharkov: 3, Kherson: 1 Master 2 level (fifth year) within a research team (I3S) Logistic : accomodation at student hostel Sophia Antipolis close from work vs far from town life Food, way of life… acclimation difficulties A good experience for the future

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Difficulties for Students Financial aspect For accomodation and eating: around 600 EUR/month To leave a part-time job Language : level in English must be sufficient To find a team addressing the same topics in host/sending University …

Context Requirements Process Conclusion 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Summary (1) To select the cursus To build paths To calibrate the level of students To prepare and sign agreements To make it true done done done done

Summary (2) UNS Welcome Ukrainian students 12/04/2019 Context Requirements Process Conclusion Summary (2) UNS Welcome Ukrainian students UNS encourages its students to study in Ukraine Only for one semester at the beginning I3S laboratories is also interested Cotutelle Ph.D are encouraged UNS and in particular Polytech’Sophia : to extend this to other universities
