STARTER 8/24 and 8/25 In your One Note for today's starter you will write your name and the history/story of your name.  Prepare to share with the class. Pick up worksheet from front stool and begin working. Learning Goal: SPI 0807.5.1 Use a simple classification key to identify an unknown organism.

Naming practices in different cultures: China- The reverse of our naming system; family name, given name, second given name Iceland- Approved first name and then patriarchal last name (but not the same last name like us) Bali- named for birth order India- last names are indicators of caste system while first names are often family names handed down

Classification What is it? A simple, universal method to name living organisms. Why do we need it? Clear, concise communication across cultures to facilitate consistent understanding

Develop a relationship between the four vocab words on page 24 Develop a relationship between the four vocab words on page 24. Explain how the four are related. Use some kind of graphic organizer to support your explanation. Define the meaning of the prefix “bi”. How does this prefix help you decode the vocab term binomial nomenclature? Read pages 24-26

Summary Create a mnemonic device to remember the levels of taxonomy in order from most broad to most specific. Be prepared to share and be questioned on this next class.  Have a great day!!!
