Images in Infectious Diseases Entry Screening Operations during Ebola outbreak in Congo, 2018 Viacheslav Kondratiuk, MD, PhD Department of Microbiology, Vinnitsa national medical university, Vinnitsa, Ukraine

Entry Screening Operations during Ebola outbreak in Congo, 2018 The core action for the prevention and control of spread of infectious disease includes Entry Screening Operations. A part of it is the surveillance at Points of Entry with the goal of avoiding the spread of the disease to other regions or at the international level. In according to response plan for Ebola outbreak in Congo 2018 year entry and exit screening measures have been implemented at the Mbandaka airport, at all hospital exit and entry points, schools, congregation points along the Congo river, the locations of areas where people congregate and travelers interact with the local population.

Entry Screening Operations during Ebola outbreak in Congo, 2018 During this screening, travelers are assessed for signs and symptoms of an illness consistent with EVD, pass through visual observation for symptoms, temperature check (Fig №1) and travel health promotion measures, as well as hand washing (Fig №2) and disinfection (Fig №3). Mbandaka region benefits from installation of 400 washbasins with Chlorine 0.05%. Operational considerations that were identified in Democratic Republic Congo regards this include lack of knowledge in disinfectant preparation, lack of personal protective equipment, inadequate waste management, depletion of battery stock for thermometers.
