Theme-“Home and Away!” Year : 1 Term: Spring 2016 R.E Mathematics English Non-fiction- Recounts, Letter writing, Dictionaries Leaflet about Walton Cardiff and a postcard from the Sogne Fjord- linked to our Geography topic Narrative – Traditional Tales Guided Reading Phonics – Phase 5 and alphabetical ordering Handwriting- Cursive consolidation and learning to join. Number- Consolidating and improving their ability to count in twos, fives and tens. Addition & subtraction using number lines and word problems to develop depth of understanding. SSM- Comparing masses and use the appropriate vocabulary. Shape- properties of both 2D and 3D shapes. Solving problems linked with money. “Why are some stories special?” This will be related to the children’s own favourite books and then linked to stories from the Christian Gospels and Judaism. How Jesus used stories in his teaching, what these mean and why they are special to believers. Easter and our Easter celebrations. MFL (Modern Foreign Languages) Computing Science Collecting data and learning how to present it as a pictogram. They will learn how pictograms show information. Beginning coding. Representing real or fantasy situations. The children will be developing their skills by creating their own fairyland environments linked to our English work, using the mouse and various paint programs. Spanish- “yes, no” and “please and thank you” and will use this to answer questions in class. Simple classroom vocabulary and practise asking for sandwiches or hot dinners in Spanish. Materials- Learning how to identify and group a wide range of materials. The children will be investigating different uses of materials and testing their properties. The parts of a plant and growing plants. Learning how they grow and naming the parts of a plant. We will be thinking about the best conditions for growth. Theme-“Home and Away!” Year : 1 Term: Spring 2016 Music Art /D&T Developing their knowledge of pulse and rhythm. We will be learning what is meant by a steady beat and how to control a beat. Learning how to combine beat and rhythm by copying patterns and creating accompaniments to songs. Art- Sculpture. Using clay to learn a variety of sculpturing techniques. A clay tile for Elsa’s castle will then be made. DT- Moving pictures. Linked to Traditional Tales/Castles. They will become familiar with the terms “lever” and “pivot” through use of construction kits. Geography History Norway- The setting of the film “Frozen” and the story of ‘The Snow Queen’. Enquiry question- “Why do tourists visit cold places?” Comparing similarities & differences. Walton Cardiff v Sogne Fjord area of Norway. We will visit our local area and observe the facilities and compare to the landscape of Norway. Using maps, atlases and globes, discover other cold places in the World and why people like to visit them. P.S.H.C.E (Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education) Homes long ago- Linked to Traditional tales. The children will compare houses and homes in terms of their appearance and age. Castles and Monarchs- What was life like in Tudor and Victorian times? What was it like to live in a castle? Visit to a castle P.E Dance- Folk Dances Gymnastics- “Rocking and Rolling” where the children will learn to spin, rock, turn and roll with control. Through the use of both the apparatus and floor they will learn to link these movements together to make sequences. Games- throwing and catching balls. The needs of people and animals in my community. Similarities and differences. Rights, rules and responsibilities; why we need rules and how they help us. The children will learn about their responsibilities towards others and the responsibilities other have towards them. Environment Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Enterprise As people concerned with our environment we will: Think about the food we eat and how we should try to eat locally produced foods to reduce our impact on the environment. Eco-Schools – Linked to ‘Homes’ topic- We will also think about environmentally friendly ways to travel and how much energy we use at home. Communities Using traditional tales and the message in “Frozen”, we will explore the feelings we have when we hear stories of bravery, selflessness and courage. We will learn about different emotions that we feel when people help us. As enterprising people we will: Explore the work of volunteers in the community. We will be finding out who and how they might help people. We will also be looking at the different types of jobs that people do within the community. As members of a community we will: be further exploring people who help us. We will think of ideas about how we can be an active part of our community by helping others.
