European Rivals Collide By the mid 1700s Europe was in a struggle for land and empire expansion. The English Colonies got in the middle of a rivalry with France b/c of its close proximity to New France

Conflict in the Ohio Valley Many settlers moved further west into the Appalachian Mtns. Why? How did France like this?

Native American Choose Sides Since the Indians had a great relationship with the French b/c of the fur trade which side did they choose to fight on against the British? Did the British have any Native American Allies?

The French and Indian War Begins Soldiers led by General George Washington was the leader in the first dispute of the war against the French. Washington attacked a small group of French soldiers in the woods…the French counterattacked with 700 soldiers and Indians. Washington and his men created a small stockade they called Fort Necessity. What was the outcome?

The Albany Congress Delegates met in Albany, NY to discuss an alliance with the Iroquois and the development of “one general government” During the congress there was a calling to have representatives from each colony to form a Grand Council. Did delegate approve this plan? Why or why not?

A string of British Defeats General Edward Braddock (England) led troops against French forces at Fort Duquesne. He boasted that he would sweep the French from the Ohio Valley. As he marched through the forest loudly and slowly the French and its Indian allies were waiting and used a surprise attack to defeat the English. What made the sharpshooters jobs easier?
