1.Consider the effect of the hazard on each of these headings Easy to remember “PEARS” Always remember that we live in an age where criminal activity is becoming more common. Protect monies that have been collected . Have a mobile phone and the appropriate emergency numbers . 2..If the hazard was released that is if the accident did happen ; how severe would it be ? Note This heading is important because if an event occurs such as an injury happens at a Rotary event, or for example, a member of the public gets food poisoning from food sold by Rotary, considerable damage may result if it is reported by word of mouth or the media 7/04/2019 Nigel Woolmer

As a rule we use these definitions and the related numbers on the axis 7/04/2019 Nigel Woolmer

As a rule we use these definitions and the related numbers on the axis As a rule we use these definitions and the related numbers on the axis . Determine the worst possible consequence (eg see the blue circled example ) And determine how probable (likely) the accident/incident s to happen (eg see the red circled example )and then multiply the numbers, ie. 4x3 = 12. The rule of thumb being 10 or above ADDITIONAL CONTROL MEASURES ARE REQUIRED These guides will help you with your risk assessment Note: Many risk assessment matrixes do not use numbers and you may see some where the final determination i(as highlighted in this example) s described as “Major Medium” or even “Major Orange” . However many of the airlines (a high risk industry!) multiply the numbers on the axis to give a much more precise indication. ie. The higher the number the higher level of action to mitigate is required. 7/04/2019 Nigel Woolmer

7/04/2019 Nigel Woolmer So … why do we show these? These statistics reinforce the likelihood determination, the historical version is a “translation” of the other two rows. It is possible that you will encounter trained risk assessors in some councils and/or similar bodies . This approach will reassure them . 7/04/2019 Nigel Woolmer
