Presentation transcript:

A few weeks ago we launch this series: Unashamed!

Let’s do a little rewind!

There is a powerful verse in Romans 1:16 that is our key verse for this series: I am NOT ASHAMED of the GOSPEL because it is the POWER of GOD that brings SALVATION to EVERYONE who BELIEVES.

If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

Does anybody know you are a Christian?

The secret of being alive on Twitter is to try and get as many people as possible to follow you by posting interesting status updates and having something to say.

Now – there is something significant about what is happening with the Twitter revolution. What if the whole point of the Bible is that we are supposed to follow Jesus.

Jesus’ favourite phrase was “Come follow me”. As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. Matthew 9:9 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. Mark 8:34 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19

The question we normally ask people is: Have you accepted Christ as your personal Saviour. But there is a better way to ask this question: Will you follow Jesus?

Okay – so where are we going today?

Is Jesus worth following?

Well let me introduce him to you and you can make up you mind!

Video Clip: This is how Steve Harvey – a well known comedian - introduced Jesus. You can get this video clip on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCRW3pQft1U

The Wonder of Jesus: Throughout the centuries since Jesus’ birth, people have marveled at the wonder of His person and work. In infancy He troubled a king; as a boy He puzzled the teachers; as a man He ruled the course of nature. He walked upon the waves, hushed the sea to sleep, and healed the multitudes without medicine. He never wrote a book; yet libraries of the world are filled with volumes that have been written about Him. He never penned a musical note; yet He is the theme of more songs than any other subject in the world. Today He remains the central figure of the human race, and the leader of mankind’s progress. All the armies that ever marched, all the navies that ever sailed, all the parliaments that ever sat, all the kings that ever reigned put together, have not affected the life of mankind on this planet so much as that one solitary life. Great men and women have come and gone; yet He lives on. Herod could not kill Him, Satan could not deceive Him, death could not destroy Him, the grave could not hold Him. All others have failed Him in some way but not Jesus!

How can you be a follower of Jesus?

Find Him! That would be a lot easier if we could see him – if he was walking around on planet earth today!

Study Him: Four books were written, called Gospels, that give eye-witness accounts of his life.

Follow Him: Do what he would do, go where he would go – keep asking the question: What is Jesus doing in this situation – how can I follow him?

Let’s see what we can learn by looking at the letter that John wrote about Jesus!
