“The Word of God Is…!” Hebrews 4:11-13

Secure in the Tower of London lies the jeweled Sword of State….

In our hands is a sword more valuable than the jeweled Sword of State In our hands is a sword more valuable than the jeweled Sword of State. It is the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God…

“To me the Bible is not God, but it is God’s voice, and I do not hear it without awe.” Charles Spurgeon

to better understand just how significant the Word of God is Purpose: to better understand just how significant the Word of God is

I The Word of God is PERMANENT

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”

I The Word of God is PERMANENT A. Permanent in That it is LIVING

Isaiah 40:8 “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of God stands forever.”

I The Word of God is PERMANENT A. Permanent in That it is LIVING B. Permanent in That it is ENDURING C. Permanent in That it is ETERNAL

“…the same yesterday, today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 “…the same yesterday, today and forever.”

1 Peter 1:23-25 “For you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God… But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word which was preached to you.”

II The Word of God is POWERFFUL A. Powerful in That it CONVICTS and CONVERTS

Isaiah 55:10-11 “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”

Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not My word like fire? Declares the Lord, and like a hammer which shatters a rock?”

II The Word of God is POWERFFUL A. Powerful in That it CONVICTS and CONVERTS B. Powerful in That it CORRECTS

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

II The Word of God is POWERFFUL A. Powerful in That it CONVICTS and CONVERTS B. Powerful in That it CORRECTS C. Powerful in That it COMFORTS

Romans 15:4 “For whatever was written was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

III The Word of God is PENETRATING A. Penetrating Like a DOUBLE EDGED SWORD

“Depend upon it, there is not a superfluous verse in the Bible nor a chapter which is useless. Doctors say of certain drugs that they are inert – they have no effect upon the system one way or the other. Now, there is not an inert passage in the Scriptures.” Charles Spurgeon

III The Word of God is PENETRATING A. Penetrating Like a DOUBLE EDGED SWORD B. Penetrating by PIERCING and DISCERNING

“When you have issued a new volume from the press – which you do every day, for every day is a new treatise from the press of life – take it to this great critic, and let the Word of God judge it.” Charles Spurgeon

Conclusion and Summary Certainly, if God’s Word gives its approval to your life, you genuinely are approved. On the other hand if God’s Word disapproves of your life, you are disapproved. Have you friends who praise you? They may in fact be your enemies in so doing. Have others attacked you and abused you? They may be right, they may be wrong, but above all let the Bible decide…
