Presentation transcript:

What types of magazines do you read? Can you identify the conventions of magazines?

We had dinner after ten o' clock because dad arrived late. If it doesn’t start a sentence then you DO NOT capitalize the “B”!!!!!! The word “because” often introduces new information which is not known to the listener/reader. It puts more emphasis on the reason. When the reason is the most important part of the sentence, the because-clause usually comes at the end. We had dinner after ten o' clock because dad arrived late. He bought a new home because he won a lottery. I read because I like reading. In your writing, teachers do not like it when you start your sentences like this. Why are you crying? Because John hit me.

How will I develop an effective and conventional magazine cover? To know the conventions of a magazine cover. To understand how to analyze the effectiveness of a magazine cover. To be able to reflect on how you will develop your own magazine cover. Audience; Purpose; Conventions; Reflect; Explain

Audience; Purpose; Conventions; Before we start... Let’s read a little background information about the importance of magazines and what role they play in society. Audience; Purpose; Conventions; Reflect; Explain

You can write in bullet point-form notes. To know the conventions of a magazine cover. To understand how to analyze the effectiveness of a magazine cover. In your groups, I want you to choose a magazine that you like the best. Identify the purpose. Identify the target audience. What convention do you think is the best in attracting the target audience? Answer two of the questions from the media triangle from two different categories (production, text and audience) Success criteria: Use keywords that we have learned (e.g., conventions, audience, psychographics, age range, socio-economic status, etc.) Speak and write clearly so your audience can read and hear what you are telling them. You can write in bullet point-form notes.

Audience; Purpose; Conventions; To understand how to analyze the effectiveness of a magazine cover. To be able to reflect on how you will develop your own magazine cover. Let’s go through your assignment. You are going to use these two days to plan your magazine cover. Then you will use Wednesday, Thursday and Friday to produce the magazine cover. Let’s see an example of one. Don’t laugh (too hard). How could you make it better? Audience; Purpose; Conventions; Reflect; Explain

Audience; Purpose; Conventions; Consolidation Go through the assessment criteria/rubric. Do you have any questions? Audience; Purpose; Conventions; Reflect; Explain
