Week Commencing 10th September 2018 Emeritus Pope Benedict XV1 Thought for the week Week Commencing 10th September 2018 “My question for you is this: what are the qualities you see in others that you would most like to have yourself? What kind of person would you really like to be?” Emeritus Pope Benedict XV1 Pope Francis tells us: “The Gospel calls us, asks us to be ‘Neighbours’ of the smallest and most abandoned.

Liturgical Theme for the week Week Commencing 10th September 2018 Keeping your eyes and ears open The aim of this weeks theme is to be aware of the people that are around us . Our education should open our eyes, ears and mind to the wonders of God’s creation. Sometimes we can go through life oblivious to what is going on around us either at home, in college or in the world. As followers of Jesus we need to be aware to what is happening and to speak up for others. We must always be thankful for the many blessings that we have received from God,

GOSPEL READING - MARK 7:31-37 Monday 10th September 2018 GOSPEL READING - MARK 7:31-37 Jesus left the district of Tyre and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, into the district of the Decapolis. And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged him to lay his hand on him. He took him off by himself away from the crowd. He put his finger into the man's ears and, spitting, touched his tongue; then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him, "Ephphatha!" (that is, "Be opened!") And immediately the man's ears were opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly. He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it. They were exceedingly astonished and they said, "He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak."

Monday 10th September 2018 Paired Speaking Question How would you like other people to describe you? Class Speaking Challenge: Who are the people you spend most time with? Class Discussion: Do the people you spend time with sometimes hold you back? If so why? Exit Pass: Who do you trust to help you become the kind of person you would really like to be?

What do you think about this? Tuesday 11th September 2018 Recent reports say that in Wirral there has been a sharp rise in reported bullying of people with learning difficulties and mental health issues. What do you think about this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7oM8g9mDnw God our Father, help us to be more like you in the things that we do and say, so that our eyes may be opened to the wonders of this life that you give us. Amen.

Wednesday 13th September 2018 What can we do about this? In the UK the number of young people registered homeless sharply, with up to 400 more young people a day facing life on our streets. According to UNICEF 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. They “Die quietly in the poorest villages on earth. What can we do about this? Loving Father, we pray for the courage to speak out for the poor who have no voice. Help us in the small actions we take to improve their quality of life. How do you think they feel? Forgive us when we get things wrong. Thursday 14th September 2018 How often do we make snide comments about people and make them feel bad? How often do we leave people out and perhaps give them a hard time? How do you think they feel? God our loving Father, help me always to remember that you love everybody exactly the same. Forgive us when we get things wrong. Amen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj0YsxHFbYw

How often do we fail to see what is going on at home? Friday 15th September 2018 How often do we fail to see what is going on at home? Perhaps we are too busy having a good time that we fail to help our parents when they are tired? When we are asked to do something, do I say “in a minute” and then never do it? Am I acting fairly? Lord, help me to be aware of the people around me who share my life. Let me not be blind to the help that they need. Amen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KO6qxZn4rM
