What is a Fable? A fable is a short narrative that uses animals, plants and other inanimate object as characters to teach valuable lessons in life. *Personification-When an inanimate object or abstraction is given human qualities or abilities. But the most important part in a fable, be it told or written, is the moral lesson that the kids must gain in the end. *Moral-A fictional narrative meant to teach a lesson.
Fables Very short stories Has a stated moral or lesson Animals act like “humans” Personality of the characters do not change, they just simply learn a lesson
Examples of Fables Aesop’s Fables are the world known Some examples are: “Fox and the Grapes” “Ant and the Grasshopper” “Goose with the Golden Eggs” “Hare and the Tortoise”
Character Traits In Fables there are usually two animals or animal types. Each animal has specific character traits. These are not “good vs evil” stories. Most fables are based on the theme of “I’m better than you”
Morals Morals must “teach everyone a character lesson”. Morals are life-changing lessons. Morals apply to all cultures around the world. Morals should be one to two sentences long.
Company Mission Read a common fable: The Ant and the Grasshopper The Hare and the Tortoise The Lion and the Mouse The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse Create a character analysis of main characters Define the “morale” of these fables. Design a “cartoon” to retell your fable.
Now for the Drama Each company will be responsible for two fables. Suggestion: Divide into groups of 3. Create a character analysis of main characters Define the “morale” of these fables. Drama, PLEASE! You must share your fable with the rest of the class by acting out the fable. Don’t forget you will need a narrator! Costumes are optional and background scenes are also optional.
Audience Quiz Each fable will create a paper quiz for the audience. Audience must be able to answer quiz based on your performance. Each quiz must include the following: Sequence of events ( at least 5) True/False statements ( at least 5) Open ended question ( about the morale) Enrich vocabulary ( at least 10) Fill in the blanks Crossword puzzle Multiple choice
