Presentation transcript:

Mrs. Wrenn Room 220 Week of: March 12, 2018 Spring Is Almost Here! March 14: Evening Conferences March 26-30: Spring Break Please return permission slips for Because of Winn Dixie movie watching This week we will compare the book and movie Because of Winn Dixie. We will start a new read aloud as we also make comparisons between different texts. There is a lot to learn by looking at the similarities and differences between characters, problems, and themes. Ask your child, “How is Dyamonde like Opal? Do they face similar challenges?” In geometry, there is a lot of vocabulary to learn and many ways to classify figures. Parallel, right angle, concave, convex, rhombus, trapezoid, and vertex are just a few terms to know. Notice shapes around you and ask your child to describe them in different ways. Because of the weather last week, we are still learning the rights and responsibilities that citizens have. This week we will start discussing how citizens can have a voice in their community. We will then explore how people use petitions and peaceful demonstrations. Ask your child to tell you about the mock meeting and demonstration we held in class. Our new writing unit will tie in nicely to our work in reading. To begin to explore essay writing, we will take an idea from a book we have read and support our claim with text evidence. Spring Is Almost Here!
