Overview of the four pilot initiatives REDSIM I-ADAPT DESIRAS MIDMURES Objective Improved agricultural irrigation water productivity through the use of an information system based on remote sensing information, water balance and crop models in deficit irrigation. Improved water efficiency (agricultural and other uses) and integration of specific actions to combat desertification in a River basin management plans Minimized agricultural water use and pesticide spray, through the use of DACOM Agri Yield Management System (AYMS) to decide the optimum moment for irrigation Improved agricultural water saving and drought forecasting in the Mures pilot area through the combination of various technical approaches Expected results Development and validation of a system for remote-sensing based Decision Support System in pilot farms (maize, wine-grapes, citrus and stone fruit) Promotion of good irrigation management practices incl. deficit irrigation Emerging technologies to combat desertification assessed Simulation model for agricultural water uses Decision support tool to facilitate application of technologies Action plan and recommendations integrated in next river basin management plan (2015) Tested AYMS in olive production in pilot farms AYMS assessed as an element of Water Stewardship Drought forecast systems Rainwater conservation practices tested in soils Crop structure optimization models and optimized irrigation methods Wind-energy systems for irrigation tested.
