39 Unit 10 New robots Part1 YUMI The new era of robotic co-workers is here. YuMi® is the result of years of research and development, making collaboration between humans and robots a reality, but it is also much more. ABB has developed a collaborative, dual arm, small parts assembly robot solution that includes flexible hands, parts feeding systems, camera-based part location and state-of-the-art robot control. YuMi is a vision of the future. YuMi will change the way we think about assembly automation. YuMi is “you and me”, working together to create endless possibilities.

39 Unit 10 New robots Part1 YUMI Introduction to structure The IRB 14000 is ABB Robotics first generation dual arm robot with 7-axis each arm, industrial robot, designed specifically for manufacturing industries that use flexible robot-based automation, e.g, 3C industry, as shown in Figure10-1. The robot has an open structure that is especially adapted for flexible use, and can communicate extensively with external systems. Figure 10-1 ABB YuMi robot

39 Unit 10 New robots Part1 YUMI Operating system The robot is equipped with the controller (located inside the body of the robot) and robot control software, RobotWare. RobotWare supports every aspect of the robot system, such as motion control, development and execution of application programs, communication etc.

39 Unit 10 New robots Part1 YUMI Additional functionality For additional functionality, the robot can be equipped with optional software for application support - for example communication features - network communication - and advanced functions such as multitasking, sensor control etc.
