Argumentative Writing

Argumentative Paragraph State your claim. Present your reasoning or argument. SET UP and then provide support or evidence for your argument. Provide a counterargument/rebuttal sentence. COMPLEX SENTENCE!!! (Although some may believe (specific reason), I do not agree. 5. Provide your rebuttal to their reason. 6. Close the paragraph.

Argumentative Paragraph State your claim. I believe students should not watch movies in school. 2. Present your reasoning or argument. Watching movies in school is harmful for kids’ brains. They get too relaxed in their desks and simply zone out on the screen. They’re not actually accomplishing anything in class, and they are mostly just letting valuable instruction time pass.

Argumentative Paragraph Provide support or evidence for your argument. In the CNN article titled “Mr. Reckling Knows Everything,” school expert Commin Since states, “Students that watch movies are 58% more likely to become criminals and try to destroy Earth. Provide a counterargument/rebuttal sentence. COMPLEX SENTENCE!!! Although some believe movies can be educational, I disagree.

Argumentative Paragraph Provide your rebuttal argument. An education requires students to be active. Sitting in a desk and watching a screen is not an active task. It’s entertainment. When the movie is over, teachers and students have no evidence proving any learning has taken place. Close the paragraph. Learning requires doing. In order to turn on students’ brains, maybe they should turn off the movie screens.

In the CNN article “Little evidence that screen time is harmful for kids, say doctors,” author Tara John refers to a report from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health which says, “ QUOTED EVIDENCE” (citation). 4. Provide a counterargument/rebuttal sentence. COMPLEX SENTENCE!!! (Although some may believe (specific reason), I do not agree. 5. Provide your rebuttal to their reason. 6. Close the paragraph.
