LCPS Music programs continue to be recognized across Virginia for high quality instruction and student performances. This past year LCPS had a record 10 Virginia Honor Bands and 14 VMEA Blue Ribbon Schools. Music programs bring school communities together through cluster concerts and school performances. Students had countless opportunities for authentic real world performance experiences such as performances in China and Hawaii, at professional sporting events and at the Kennedy Center.

Accomplishments LCPS has been selected as a “Best Community for Music Education” by the NAMM foundation (only 13 school districts in the Commonwealth) Music Department of SMMS earned a 2018 NAMM Merit Award (only 135 designees in the nation)
Accomplishments “Four Tones,” A Cappella group from RRHS, performed for TV broadcast in Shanghai, China. FHS bands and choirs performed alongside bands and choirs from Beijing No. 166 High School at Strathmore Hall. FHS Artist Guitar ensemble was selected as one of three ensembles to perform for Music in Our Schools month on the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center. DHS “Titan Singers” performed at Chairman Randall’s State of the County event with Lt. Governor present.
Accomplishments Elizabeth Shoemaker, choral director at SRMS, will be competing in the National Eisteddfod (vocal competition) in Cardiff, Wales. The Briar Woods Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds performed at Carnegie Hall in The New York Wind Band Festival. Tuscarora HS students in “Never Born to Follow” band opened for Bon Jovi concert.
Accomplishments 79% of All VA Guitar students were from LCPS. More than a third (71 students) of the Regional Orchestra were from LCPS. 25% of All Virginia Jazz Ensemble came from our students. 10 LCPS students qualified for VA Honors Choir (open only to seniors across the state). LCPS MS Choral students captured 58 seats for Virginia ACDA MS Honor Choir and 80 students made the Southern Region ACDA choirs. 4 LCPS students qualified for the 2017 NAfME All-National Honor Concert Band.
