What is Cause and Effect? Cause and Effect is something that happens and what happens. Examples are: The tectonic plates move  ->  It causes an earthquake They add chocolate to the warm milk -> It turns into chocolate milk Someone broke his arm -> he needs to go to the doctor

What key words or clues help determine the text structure? Key  words for cause will be: because, since, unless, as a result of. Key words for effect will be: so, thus, therefore, this led to.
