Presentation transcript:

The 5Ws (& 1H) of Scholarships Presented by Anders Peterson, LSW Senior Meeting, Class of 2019

Who: You or your child What: Free $$$ for college Why: Ummm...

4. WHEN: all senior year! Meeting deadlines for admissions apps often = full institutional scholarship consideration. These deadlines can be in S1. Private (non-institutional) scholarship deadlines really get rolling in January, but there are opps as soon as August. March is the peak month, but April will still have a number of opps. There are post-April deadlines, but they’re fewer and further between

5. WHERE: Research private scholarships using: ScholarshipQuest Other quality websites LSW Counseling Center website parent/student workplace, church, etc.

6. HOW: (most important) Research admissions app deadlines for colleges you’re considering Research your college’s Cost of Education and keep track of your FAFSA EFC Dust off your resume from Take Charge or make a new one using a resume generator.

6. More HOW: Ask persons w/ whom you have a professional relationship (teacher, coach, counselor, employer, etc.) if they’d be willing to write you a letter for different opps. You can reuse letters! Use materials you’ll receive in your senior packet Keep track of your progress or process using a calendar or spreadsheet.

Questions? Thank you for your time and attention!
