Interesting Facts Belize is home to more than 400 islands. Belize is famous for its scuba diving and Snorkeling opportunities. Mayan Indians once lived in this region Capital used to be Belize City but was destroyed by a hurricane in 1961

Belize is home to the largest unbroken barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere The 2nd longest in the world (Australia) Belize is the only Central American country with no Pacific coast. Belize oranges are so sweet, some are shipped to Florida and California to be mixed with local oranges for orange juice.

The population of Belize is very young, with 50% less than 18 years old. Fisheries are important and include lobster, conch, shrimp and fin fish. Belize has 43 airports. (5 paved) (38 unpaved.)
