Presentation transcript:

Keep this in mind when choosing a book! TDA Station For this TDA you will choose two of the following literary elements to analyze: symbolism, characterization, mood, conflict, or theme.  Keep this in mind when choosing a book! Day 1: Read through at least three picture books. Choose one that will be your text and begin completing the analysis questions. Each person must have a different book. HW: None

TDA Station Day 2: Continue to work on the analysis questions for the book you chose yesterday. Once done, get brainstorming page and begin brainstorming. HW: finish analysis questions

TDA Station Day 3: Prompt and Brainstorm Read the prompt. Highlight important information in the prompt. Set a timer and brainstorm individually for 6 minutes- write down everything.  One person at a time will summarize their book. Then, others in the group must give additional ideas or questions to consider for brainstorming. HW: none

TDA Station Day 4: Choose Claims and Organize Information Look at your brainstormed items. Choose the two claims you will use in your TDA. Be specific. Ex) characterization of Scrooge to show he's greedy       Playful mood because of word choice Get organization page and begin organizing brainstorming into categories. HW: finish organizing ideas

TDA Station Day 5: Finding Evidence Find three pieces of evidence you’re considering to use to prove each claim.  Decide which piece(s) to use in your TDA – use ideas of the group to help! HW: choose best piece of evidence

TDA Station Day 6: Outlining Take the information you’ve gathered and begin to outline your TDA. I'd suggest jotting down main ideas like we did in class.  Start with your thesis and body paragraphs. Save the broad statement for last.  HW: none

Body Paragraph #2: 1.           Introduction: 1.     <-- end here! 2.     <--- start here!           Body Paragraph #1: 1.       2.       get ideas down, then rearrange                2. and 3. to make idea flow.           3. 4.           Body Paragraph #2: 1.       2.       get ideas down, then rearrange                2. and 3. to make idea flow.           3. 4.          Conclusion: 1.    2.        can be 1-2 sentences 3.

TDA Station Day 7: Outlining and Begin Drafting Once you’ve finished your outline, begin drafting your TDA! I suggest this is done on the computer. Make a Word document in Office 365, so it automatically saves! HW: finish outline

TDA Station Day 8: Drafting Finish drafting your TDA. Make sure you’ve hit all the elements and provided enough background explanation and evidence explanation.  HW: finish rough draft

TDA Station Day 9: Revisions Go through the revisions check list. I like revising on a hard copy with sticky notes.  Please print a copy of your TDA if you like this method, too.  Go through the revisions check list. Color code TDA/check formatting Highlight first word – vary transitions Read aloud Group members trade – look for missing background info and explanation! HW: none

TDA Station Day 10: Revisions and Final Edits Go through the revisions check list. Color code TDA/check formatting Highlight first word – vary transitions Read aloud Group members trade – look for missing background info and explanation!  Final edits – Do you have complete sentences? Is the format correct?  HW: Print TDA and complete self-grading
