A degrading stereotype, or just an expression Rednecks A degrading stereotype, or just an expression

Background The term “redneck” has been used to describe Southerners by their clothing choices, occupations, education level, and even their hobbies. As I see it, this is just another unfair stereotype that is exploited by the public.

“Redneck” Outfit Wrangler jeans Cowboy boots Plaid shirts Cowboy hat Anything camouflage

Education and Occupation Most rednecks are seen as unintelligent and homely, but in all reality, they are some of the most hard working people in this country. Given, some do not finish high school or go to college, they find occupations in something that they have done their entire lives. These fore-thought “rednecks” have their own talents in which drive our economy as we know it.

Hobbies Hunting Shooting guns Fishing Mudding Farming Riding horses Drinking beer

Redneck Stereotype Uneducated Poor Alcoholics Always dirty Only listen to country music Always wear camouflage

Rednecks now Today, rednecks are seen as inferior to most. This is definitely an unfair stereotype against Southerners that share common characteristics. People today are starting to realize that these so called rednecks are not so bad after all. Just like preps or jocks, rednecks are defined by their appearance and hobbies. One day the term redneck is just going to be another fad that no one even notices.
