Apply Finish Plasters Introduction Finish plasters are applied to backgrounds to leave a smooth flat hygienic finish The finish plaster has to be suitable to the background to which they are to be applied A range of finish plasters are available to suit different backgrounds, most are hand applied but some are available for machine application

What Do you Know ? How many finish plasters can you name Apply Finish Plasters What Do you Know ? How many finish plasters can you name What is Dura-Finish used for What plaster would you use on a floating coat of Thistle Browning Where would you start a finish coat on a wall

If you have a doubt use the Thistle Plaster selector guide Apply Finish Plasters If you have a doubt use the Thistle Plaster selector guide Show students where they can find the selector guide 4

Finish Plaster Range Apply Finish Plasters Explain the differences in the plasters and their uses Explain where each of the plasters would be used Revisit background preparation to embed different types of preparation required before finish plaster can be applied. 5

Apply Finish Plasters Mixing All our plasters are pre-mixed. Add only clean water to prepare for use. Mix by hand or mechanical whisk. In a well ventilated area. Revisit mixing to embed learning 6

Apply Finish Plasters Application: Toe Heel Explain why plaster finish is applied in this way The application of the finish plaster is always started at the top of the wall working from the toe of the trowel towards the heel of the trowel. 7

Applying Finish Plaster Apply Finish Plasters Applying Finish Plaster The First coat is applied approximately 1mm in thickness evenly across the entire wall This should be allowed to stiffen and then flattened with the trowel A second coat should be applied to the first coat again at a thickness of 1mm The wall should be gradually trowelled to a finish Go through the process of applying finish plaster in detail 8

Applying Finish Plaster Apply Finish Plasters Applying Finish Plaster The process of applying finish plaster to ceilings is the same as it is to walls Go through the process of applying plaster to a ceiling pointing out the subtle differences to applying to a wall 9
