Innovation Infrastructure  Innovation Ecosystem Willem Foorthuis Prof. Sustainable Cooperative Entrepreneurship

Conducting a Gap Analysis The innovation infrastructure – agreement on what this is Steps in the Gap Analysis Where are we now? Where do we wish we were? How are we going to close the gap?

From Innovation infrastructure to Innovation Ecosystems

Understanding emergence of knowledge infrastructures Individual knowledge infra Development of connections between knowledge infra  clusters Development of transformed knowledge infra  ecosystems Development of connected (regional) ecosystems  EU ecosystem

Conducting a Gap Analysis Where are we now? Where do we wish we were? How are we going to close the gap?

Alternative to a gap analysis How can we become future-proof? How has our innovation infrastructure developed – connection to our specific context: What are defining features of our innovation infra – university-driven? Large corporation? Science & innovation policy? SMEs? Who are key players defining the knowledge infra? What are important relevant regional strengths (sectors, knowledge institutions, R&D, SMEs, policy, governance, etc.) What is driving new developments – new investments, new policy, global developments, national government, EU regional policy, etc.? What are urgent challenges to be met and what are possible innovation capacities to solve them?  What needs to happen to become future proof? What new developments visible?  How can we build on this? How can we expand our existing strengths… connect to outside? organize differently? measure and recognize differently? include ‘other’ in strategic dialogues and new developments? ???
