Types of Load Name____________________________ Tutor Group _____ In construction a load is a force that acts on a building, such as the weight of the building on the foundations, or the force of wind blowing against the roof. In your own words describe what a load is, think of your own example to help explain. Dead Loads These are loads that don’t move such as the weight of the roof resting on the walls. 2. In your own words describe a dead load? Impact Loads These are loads that hits or falls on the building, such as furniture or people moving around in the building. 3. Using rain as an example explain what an impact load is? Dynamic Loads These are loads that can change during the use of the building (eg, over a period of time that could be years) such as people moving around or furniture being moved. 4. Explain why it is important when selecting the materials for a building to understand the type of dynamic load a building will have to cope with?
